Research activities aim for example at the characterization of chromium alloys and the study of their performance in fusion devices and are based on a cooperation between Metallwerke Plansee (Austria), Austrian Academy of Sciences (OEAW/ESI Leoben) and the Nuclear Research Centres SCK/CEN Mol (Belgium) and NRG Petten (Netherlands). Neutron-scattering investigations focus on the characterization of microstructural changes due to irradiation effects which correspond to changes in macroscopic quantities as observed, e.g., in mechanical testing.
