| Riga Technical University is one of the oldest institutions of higher technical education in North-Eastern Europe. Founded in1862, following similar technical institutions in Switzerland and Germany, the RTU serves the needs of rapidly growing industry of the Baltic region. RTU has been an international institution from the very beginning - many distinguished scientists from Germany, Poland, Sweden and Russia have studied and worked there.
After Latvia has regained its independence, Riga Technical University completely reformed its process of education with the clear goal to meet education and research standards set by the European Union. The university actively participates in a large number of European programmes of education and science. Along with Latvian and Russian students, the university has also a fast growing number of students from China, India, Lebanon, Pakistan, Egypt, Syria and other countries. There are about 13,000 students at the RTU. |
