Established in 1970. WIPO's objectives are to promote the protection of intellectual property world-wide through co-operation among States and to ensure administrative co-operation among the intellectual property "Unions", each founded on a multilateral treaty and dealing with legal or administrative aspects of intellectual property. Intellectual property comprises two main branches: industrial property, chiefly in inventions, trade marks, industrial designs and appellations of origin; and copyright, chiefly in literary, musical, artistic, photographic and audio-visual works.
