STUK: Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority

Responsible for the regulation of radiation and nuclear safety in Finland. The responsibilities include preparation of rules and regulations, safety assessment and inspections, nuclear materials control (safeguards), regulation of nuclear waste management, and physical protection of nuclear material and nuclear installations, preparedness for accident situations, continuos radiation monitoring in Finland, and research activities in the field of radiation and nuclear safety. Works under the administration of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. An automatic radiation monitoring is maintained under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior monitoring network.
