Co-Ordinated Research Project (CRP) on
Comparative Analysis of Methods and Tools for Nuclear Knowledge Preservation

Preserving existing nuclear knowledge has received significant attention in many Member States, who have started or indicated their intentions to initiate nuclear knowledge preservation projects to prevent the loss of information as a strategic resource in nuclear sector. The issue includes the development of knowledge preservation approaches and tools based on the modern information technology.

The main objective of the CRP is to assist Member States in the selection and implementation of appropriate cost-effective knowledge preservation technological solution to ensure preservation of critical knowledge in nuclear sector. The objective will be reached through coordinated research and analysis of various methods and tools developed in Member States and used for nuclear knowledge preservation, in particular methods and tools to capture, interpret, analyse, visualize and disseminate data and information, as well as the knowledge ultimately derived from them. Different types of information will be under consideration: numerical and textual data, databases, expert systems, video and multimedia and as well as tacit knowledge. Taking into account existing incompatibilities between data formats, software systems, methodologies, standards and models in Member States, a special framework for this analysis will be established. Based on the result of the analysis, the guidelines for nuclear knowledge preservation will be elaborated. This will facilitate interoperability and knowledge integration in Member States, improve the present understanding of various technological aspects of nuclear knowledge preservation and will help to increase the efficiency of nuclear knowledge preservation projects in Member States. Detailed information of the CRP is given in the Information Sheet PDF, 7 pages, 178 KB

Member States, interested to participate in the CRP, can get further details from the Research Contracts Administration Section of the Agency.
