IAEA Global Nuclear Power Plant Survey:

“Investigating the Link Between Knowledge Management Practices and Organizational Performance”

 

Introduction


As a nuclear power plant (NPP) organization, your station is being formally requested to participate in this global survey on the topic of knowledge management (KM). The survey is being sent to operating NPP organizations around the world. The objective of this survey is to investigate the impact of the various knowledge management practices used in nuclear power plants on organizational performance. The survey should be completed for each specific station organization by a senior operations manager (and his/her designates) at the station (e.g. Chief Nuclear Officer, Plant Manager, Vice-President of Operations or similar position) who has a broad understanding of organizational practices and operational performance, and who can solicit input from various department managers as needed to complete particular questions.

Your responses will be kept confidential. Only aggregate data will be reported in the research findings to ensure anonymity. It is expected that input from various parts of the organization may be required to complete the questions in this survey. Please try to answer all questions objectively and without bias. The survey was prepared in four different languages for easier understanding. You can choose any of the language variants.

Definitions of the many specific knowledge management terms used in this survey can be found at: http://www.iaea.org/km/documents/NKM-Glossary.pdf. The IAEA hopes to repeat the survey on a global basis every 3 years. The value of the survey is that it will help to understand the link between knowledge management practices, organizational effectiveness and overall operational performance. The survey will provide important data for the industry to gain deeper insight on this issue. When repeated in the future, the survey will help to identify changes that are occurring over time. This survey will also serve as a useful tool for NPP organization self-assessment. Individual stations will be able to compare themselves against industry benchmark findings. Your participation in the survey is greatly appreciated. Survey participants may request a summary of the study findings from the IAEA.
