Summary

An Asian Regional Workshop on Managing Nuclear Knowledge was held in Tokyo, Japan, on 22 – 26 October 2007, hosted by the Tokyo Institute of Technology. This event was the first IAEA activity related to nuclear knowledge management (NKM) to be held in Japan.

The workshop focused on:

Due to the uniqueness of the venue — a graduate school on nuclear engineering — a special session was organized by young researchers, including students and postgraduates, to discuss ideal environments for acquiring nuclear knowledge and transfer it to the next generation of nuclear specialists.

The workshop consisted of two parts: In Part 1, selected speakers from all over the world gave a series of lectures, and several technical presentation-discussion sessions were held on latest developments in NKM and related activities. In Part 2, presentations focused on the current status and future prospects of a number of initiatives addressing NKM, nuclear education and training in Asia, and innovative technology development, followed by in-depth discussions by the participants.
