Abstract
A reliability analysis of the reserve shutdown system of the VHTR (Very High
Temperature Reactor) has been carried out by means of the fault tree method.
The reserve shutdown system investigated in this paper is a rupture disc type. In
this analysis, logic failure (the initiation signal system failure for the reserve
shutdown system) and hardware failure are considered. Through this reliability
analysis, the high reliability of the reserve shutdown system of the VHTR was
verified. Furthermore we have obtained valuable information concerning how to
improve the reliability of the reserve shutdown system of the VHTR.
