Zhiyong Huang, Jie Wang, Jinling Li, Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology, Beijing, CHINA

Abstract

In China, the 10MW High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor Test Module (HTR-10) reached its first criticality in December 2001, and reached its full power of 10MW in February 2003. One of the promising trends of HTR-10 evolution is the development for electric power on the basis of direct gas turbine cycle utilizing the closed Brayton cycle. The HTR-10 direct gas turbine project (HTR-10GT) has been approved as a demonstration project for electricity generation. The power conversion system of HTR-10GT consists of core, turbine, high pressure compressor, low pressure compressor, recuperator, precooler, intercooler and connecting pipes. Helium is used as the core coolant and the working fluid for turbine and compressors. The thermal diagram with thermodynamic Brayton cycle analysis results are expected as the base of the components design and the evaluation of HTR-GT cycle performance, dynamic performance, and off-design performance. As the results of computation and optimization, the thermodynamic characteristics of the helium closed Brayton cycle of HTR-10GT are presented.
