Abstract
The Pebble Bed Nuclear Reactor concept being studied in South Africa has, in many aspects, taken a new approach to and moved away from other designs. Different international entities are supplying expertise on different specific parts of the plant. All of the subsystems are well defined in their own spheres of expertise. However, the interactions between the individual components remained a question mark. An engineering simulator was developed to overcome these uncertainties and to investigate the response of the system. This paper describes the extent and scope of the simulation as well as the results obtained so far in Phase 1.
