Abstract
Worldwide, approximately 30% of total primary energy is used to produce electricity. Most of the remaining 70% is either used for transportation or is converted into hot water, steam and heat. The International Atomic Energy Agency is a specialized agency within the United Nations family whose role includes the development and practical application of atomic energy for peaceful uses throughout the world. The focus of this paper is on those applications associated with district heating and process heat production for industrial use.
