Abstract

Calculation codes DIAB and KORSAR have been developed and calculations of accidents with ceasing of the circulations and loss of coolant for the modular reactor have been carried out. Some coefficients of sensitivity to the model parameters have been determined. It is shown that account for the fuel element circulation reduces noticeably the maximum fuel temperature in these accidents. Possible use of the fuel elements, similar to the HTGR spherical fuel elements, in the LWRs is considered. It is expected that these new-type reactors would be able to withstand LOCAs, with the fuel elements and protection barriers remaining intact.
