Technical Meeting on “Review of National Programmes on Fast Reactors and Accelerator Driven Systems”

The 37th Annual Meeting of the Technical Working Group on Fast Reactors, the IAEA Technical Meeting (TM) on “Review of National Programmes on Fast Reactors and Accelerator Driven Systems (ADS)”, was held at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna from 10 to 14 May 2004. The meeting was attended by TWG-FR Members and Advisers from the following Member States (MS): Belarus, Belgium (observer), Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation, Sweden (observer), Turkey (observer), the United Kingdom, and the United States of America. Apologies for not being able to participate were received from Italy, Switzerland, the European Commission, and OECD/NEA.

The TWG-FR Scientific Secretary opened the meeting and introduced the Director of IAEA’s Nuclear Power Division, Mr. Akira Omoto, who extended the Agency’s welcome to all the participants.

Mr. J. Roglans, from the USA (Argonne National Laboratory), was appointed chairman. The chairman and the participants introduced themselves and gave a short presentation on their background and experiences.

The draft agenda prepared by the TWG-FR Scientific Secretary and distributed to the participants prior to the meeting was accepted without modifications.

The objectives of the meeting were to:

  1. exchange information on the national programmes on Fast Reactors (FR) and Accelerator Driven Systems (ADS);
  2. review the progress since the 36th TWG-FR Annual Meeting, including the status of the actions;
  3. consider meeting arrangements for 2004 and 2005;
  4. review the Agency’s co-ordinated research activities in the field of FRs and ADS, as well as co-ordination of the TWG-FR’s activities with other organizations.
