About: Coordinated Research Projects
Coordinated Research Projects (CRPs) offer, through international team-building, a mechanism for collaborative R&D Work.
The CRPs are developed in relation to a well defined research topic on which an appropriate number of institutions are invited to collaborate. They are an effective means of bringing together researchers in both developing and industrialized countries to solve a problem of common interest. The Agency's principal role in the CRPs is to coordinate the research being carried out by selected institutions. This is achieved through:
- The appointment of a Project Officer within the Technical Division initiating the specific research activities with demonstrated competence in the topic covered by the research;
- Ensuring that the subject of research is clearly defined and that each national research institution participating in the CRP undertakes research according to an agreed workplan;
- Ensuring that the scientific and technical methodologies proposed by each national research institutions are appropriate and relevant to the purpose of the research and that such research will:
- make optimum use of existing information and contribute to filling knowledge/technology gaps in the field of research, and
- permit a comparison of research results from different sites or countries;
- Informing members of the CRP on important developments that affect the field of research concerned and generally assisting the national research institutions in obtaining information and, where necessary, materials needed for research;
- Arranging Research Coordination Meetings (RCMs) of all scientists collaborating in the research;
- Providing financial grants under contract to support the research and inviting participating scientists to attend RCMs at the Agency's cost.
