Abstract

This paper presents the principles adopted in the design of two independent, fast acting, diverse shutdown mechanisms and their absorber rods for Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR). It describes features of the shutdown mechanisms and their absorber rods, passive features, present status in R and D and program on passive and protective feature as a measure of defence-in-depth, testing and Verification.
