The World Nuclear University was inaugurated in September 2003 with the aim of strengthening the educational foundations of nuclear science and technology in the 21st century. The WNU is a global partnership of institutions of nuclear learning in some 30 countries, operating with help from the WNU’s four “founding supporters”: WNA, IAEA, WANO, and NEA. Since the founding ceremony, the WNU Coordinating Centre was established in London, ten WNU working groups were assembled to handle key areas of cooperation, and the concept of a WNU Summer Institute was developed through WNA-IAEA collaboration. Among WNU activities, the Summer Institute – as an academy for future leaders in nuclear science and technology – is currently at the most advanced stage.
Agency conducted a Technical Meeting in June 2005, with participation of experts from different Member States, to review support to the World Nuclear University, outline the current issues, coordinate the WNU actions and, in particular, discuss the latest preparations for the Summer Institute.
