The accelerator laboratory at the University of Helsinki was founded in 1956. The current research focus is in the fields of materials science, nanotechnology, laser physics and computational materials science. Currently, the laboratory features experimental equipment consisting mainly of a 5 MV tandem accelerator and a 500 kV implanter.
