The Institute of Radiation Protection and Dosimetry, IRD, founded in 1972, is one of the institutes of the National Nuclear Energy Commission, CNEN. Since IRD is responsible to provide an effective response to the needs of government and on questions related to ionizing radiation, its mission is to contribute for the welfare of the population, acting as a National Reference Center in the areas of radiation protection and metrology of ionizing radiation.
