An outstanding feature of INIS is the easy access to the full text of non-conventional - NCL or
grey literature.
Literature reported to INIS Database falls into two categories, conventional and non-conventional :
Conventional literature is commercially available through normal distribution channels, such
as books and
journals.
Non-conventional literature (NCL, also called ´grey literature´)
comprises scientific
and technical reports, patent documents, conference
papers and theses, which are not readily available through commercial channels.
| NCL on CD-ROM (from 1997 onwards) |
|
The full text documents reported in INIS Atomindex Volume/Update 28/01 (1997) and onwards are available on CD-ROMs. The CD-ROMs can be purchased on a subscription basis for € 40 per disc. Each CD-ROM contains approximately 150 Reports. The number of CD-ROMs produced in one year depends on the volume of input from INIS Centres. The total number of CD-ROMs produced from 1997 to the present is 312 CDs. Each CD-ROM comes with retrieval software in both English and French. The documents are arranged by Reference Number (RN) or Report Number (RP) as listed in the INIS Atomindex or the INIS Database. Each CD-ROM is serialized by the first and last RN. Results of a query on the INIS Database on CD-ROM can be linked to the NCL CD-ROMs for rapid viewing of the full text.
