| General comments on Browser tuning The browser settings should be optimised to have the best/fastest viewing experience. Ensure that the browser uses the cache - the cache is local memory where the browser keeps local copies of the visited pages, the graphics, etc in order to avoid asking back the server |
|
| Click on the image on the right which is from Netscape and shows the parameters the user
should check. If the check is on never, every page changes asks a fresh copy from the server, which is slow. Also, the
disk space for the cache is important. The same settings can be set in I.E using the Edit/Setting option |

| 4. Trouble Shooting | |
| Slow loading of pages Slow download times can be caused by a variety of circumstances. In general the pages will load much faster in Internet Explorer than in Netscape. To maximize download times, try the following - Read the comments on Browser tuning above - The busiest times for the INIS web server are from 9:00 - 10:00 Central European Time and from 2:30 - 4:00 CET. Connecting to the site at times other than during these periods should slightly increase the performance. Unable to Access Pages Because of its popularity and general interest in the scientific community, the INIS site will be visited by thousands of people a day. This along with the increasing amount of traffic on the Internet in general, may cause the server to answer slowly or to refuse a connection if it is busy. If this happens, please continue to attempt your connection. If you find that the server is unreachable for an extended period, contact INIS via e-mail. Broken Links The INIS server is constantly updated and checked for link integrity. If you find a broken link, please report it to INIS via e-mail. |
