Conference Article: HTGR spherical fuel elements of the monolithic type bound by pyrocarbon
Zelenskiy, V.F.; Gurin, V.A.; Keruchen'ko, S.S.; Konotop, Yu.FAbstract
The technology of HTGR spherical fuel element fabrication being used is based on the application of methods of powder metallurgy, i.e. mould pressing followed by heat treatment. As a binder coal tar pitch or a variety of resins are used. Upon the research of the above methods for HTGR fuel element fabrication several new methods of carbon-graphite material production were developed on the base of porous filler volume densification by pyrocarbon, and these methods can be used successfully for the fabrication of HTGR fuel elements
