Conference Article: Seismic design of the Heysham 2 advanced gas cooled reactor nuclear power station.

Allen, C.F. (Central Electricity Generating Board, Barnwood (UK). Generation Development and Construction Div.)

Abstract

The Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor Nuclear Power Station at Heysham Stage 2 was the first Central Electricity Generating Board Station to be designed against the effect of earthquakes. The paper reviews the criteria adopted for the design for both the input and the allowable limits together with the analytical methods used in the design process. The paper describes the resulting effect on the design of the station and the operational implications. It also covers the areas of the design where reappraisal is currently underway.
