Conference Article: Tribology In High Temperature Helium: First Phase of The CEA Helium Technology Program
Lionel Cachon, Serge Albaladejo, Pascal Taraud, Alain Berjon, Commissariat a l’energie Atomique Centre de Cadarache, Saint Paul lez Durance, FRANCEAbstract
In France, a comprehensive research and development program was initiated in 2001, in several fields (design studies, fuel, materials, codes, high temperature helium technology), for the Gas Cooled Reactor (GCR) project using helium as cooling fluid. The CEA developed a set of technological loops, in order to establish the feasibility of the technology of an early VHTR prototype to be started by 2015-2020, and then to qualify the generic VHTR technology, so as to meet similar objectives for the GFR. Several main studies have been started to verify the feasibility of the high temperature helium technology.
