Abstract

The creation experience of rotating rotors on electromagnetic suspension shows that both a vertical rotor layout and a vertical electromagnetic suspension are realized depending on the Customer’s request. Moreover, it is noted in literature /1/ that both layouts are characterized by the same problems: vibration and self-excited oscillations of rotor systems. In theory such a comparison requires sufficiently rigid and objective criteria, which are too difficult to formulate without supporting on a concrete design. Nevertheless, it is interesting to compare properties of different systems supposing that the Customer does not determine a layout type. Not being in preference to any rotor layout the authors try to reveal the distinctive features of rotor layout on an electromagnetic bearing (EMB). It is possible to solve this task by the direct comparison of dynamics problems of one and the same rotor at its different layouts by the results of numerical analysis.
