Conference Article: Impact Analysis of The Catcher Bearing For The Magnetic Suspending Rotor In HTR10-GT Project
Li Wan, Yang Xu, Guojun Yang, Lei Zhao, Xinxin Wu, Institute of Nuclear Energy Technology, Beijing, CHINAAbstract
Magnetic suspending rotor will drop into the catcher bearing in the case of a failure of its magnetic bearings. The function of catcher bearings is to prevent rotor/stator contact. This paper presents the impact analysis in the design of the catcher bearing for the magnetic suspending rotor in HTR-10GT project. The catcher bearing is a ball bearing with clearance between rotor and inner race. Three load cases have been analyzed in this paper. In the first load case the rotor drops without rotation and no graphite annulus involved. In the second load case the rotor drops onto the graphite annulus without rotation. In the third load case the rotor drops onto the graphite annulus with high rotational speed of 18000 rpm. From the results, some conclusions can be made: (1) the rotor with high rotational speed will produce high stress because of the centrifugal loads; (2) the graphite annulus will greatly reduce the impact load transferring to the catcher bearing; (3) the graphite annulus will increase the axial displacement of the rotor to make damage on the magnetic bearings.
