Abstract

HTGRs are intended to be located near industrial plants and residential areas, therefore they must possess enhanced safety characteristics. One of the most important safety aspects associated with reactor operation is reliability of residual heat removal system (RHRS). This paper describes design options for heat removal systems for small pebble bed reactor which provide a high degree of reliability for residual heat removal.
