Conference Article: Status of fast reactor research in Germany

Heusener, G. (Forschungzentrum Karlsruhe Technik und Umwelt, Karlsruhe (Germany))

Abstract

The fast reactor activities of FZK are part of the Nuclear Safety Research Project. The R&D program of this project has been restructured in accordance with the demands of the Federal Government. The key issues and tasks of the program concern LWR and FBR safety and transmutation of minor actinides. In February 1995, a contract was signed by German and French utilities and reactor manufacturers including Nuclear Power International, to enter a Basic-Design Phase for the European Pressurized Water Reactor, EPR. An accord was also reached between the French DSIN and the German Federal Ministry BMU on basic safety requirements for future nuclear power stations.
