Conference Article: Status of sodium cooled fast reactor development in the Russian Federation
Buksha, Yu. (Gosudarstvennyj Komitet po Ispol'zovaniyu Atomnoj Ehnergii SSSR, Obninsk (Russian Federation). Fiziko-Ehnergeticheskij Inst.)Abstract
The main trends of R&D for the new generation of advanced fast reactors are summarized as follows: (1) development of reactor emergency shutdown devices and decay heat removal systems based on passive principles; (2) development of irradiated fuel reprocessing technology from. the standpoint of deeper extraction of minor actinides to arrange for their transmutation; and (3) development of new cores for burning weapon-grade plutononium. The next type of fast reactor, which is under construction at two sites in Russia, is the BN-800 reactor with a power output of 800 MW(e).
