1. The Director General of the IAEA received a note verbale of 28 June 1996 from the Permanent Mission of Sweden about the adoption, by the Government of Sweden, of the common policy declaration adopted on 20 November 1984 by the ministers for foreign affairs of the then ten members of the European Community. This was transmitted to the Director General by the Resident Representative of Italy on behalf of the Community on 22 March 1985 and is reproduced in INFCIRC/322.

2. As requested by the Government of Sweden, the text of its note verbale of 28 June 1996 is being circulated for the information of Member States of the Agency.

The Permanent Mission of Sweden presents its compliments to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency and has the honour to inform him, that the Government of Sweden as Member of the European Union as of 1 January 1995 has upon accession to the European Union adopted the common policy declaration adopted on 20 November 1984 by the ministers for foreign affairs of the ten members of the European Community, which was transmitted to the Director General by the Resident Representative of Italy, on behalf of the Community, on 22 March 1985 and which is reproduced in document INFCIRC/322. The declaration deals with transfers of nuclear material, equipment and technology between the Member States of the European Community.

The Government of Sweden would be grateful if the Director General were to bring this Note to the attention of the Member States of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The Permanent Mission of Sweden avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency the assurances of its highest consideration.
