About the IAEA

Established in 1957, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is an independent intergovernmental organization within the United Nations System. Headquartered in Vienna Austria, the "Agency" has 127 Member States who work together to fulfill the main objectives of its Statute: "To accelerate and enlarge the contribution of atomic energy to peace, health and prosperity throughout the world and to ensure, as far as it is able, that assistance provided by it, or at its request or under its supervision or control, is not used in such as way as to further any military purpose."
