Providing Information and Technical Services

INIS

The Agency operates the International Nuclear Information System (INIS), the world's leading information repository on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. INIS processes most of the world's scientific and technical literature, and organizes it to mirror the activities of the IAEA. The scope of subjects includes physics, engineering and technology, life and environmental sciences, chemistry and materials studies, earth sciences, isotopes, nuclear energy and other disciplines. 103 Member States and 19 co-operating international organizations currently participate in INIS. The total INIS Database now includes over 2 million records.

PRIS

IAEA has operated the Power Reactor Information System (PRIS) since 1970. PRIS contains extensive information and data on nuclear reactors throughout the world including details on reactor design and operational experience. The System offers two services to Member States: Micro-PRIS, a subset of the data bank available on diskettes, and PRIS-PC, an on-line Internet connection to the data base.

Publications and Public Information

The Agency is also a major publisher in the nuclear and related fields: during 1996, more than 170 books, reports and journal issues were published in English. Additionally, the Agency issued numerous publications in Chinese, Russian, French and Spanish. Such sales publications are available from the Division of Publications.

The Agency's Division of Public Information issues numerous publications free-of-charge including the IAEA Bulletin, Highlights (Annual Report) and specialized booklets. Copies of these can be obtained by writing to IAEA/ADPI. Electronic editions are available on IAEA's Internet Home Page at http://www.iaea.org/worldatom/inforesource/
