Safeguards Agreements & Additional Protocols
The IAEA has safeguards agreements in force with more than 145 States around the world. Most of these are comprehensive safeguards agreements concluded pursuant to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). Other types of agreements are known as item or facility safeguards agreements and voluntary offer agreements. Also in place is a Model Additional Protocol to safeguards agreements that grants the IAEA complementary verification authority.
