IPCC Special Report on Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage (2005)
In 2005 the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published a Special Report on Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage. The report was prepared under the auspices of Working Group III (Mitigation of Climate Change) of the IPCC and focuses on carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) as an option for mitigation of climate change. It assesses the technological maturity of CCS options, their technical and economic potential to contribute to mitigating climate change, and their costs. It also covers legal and regulatory issues, public perception, environmental impacts and safety as well as issues related to inventories and accounting of greenhouse gas emission reductions.
The international writing team included H-Holger Rogner, Former Head of the IAEAs Planning and Economic Studies Section (PESS), as a lead author, and Ferenc Toth, Unit Head-PESS, as a contributing author.
