The South African government has approved a R84 billion investment by ESKOM over the next 5 years, in electricity generation, transmission and distribution capacity. The decision leaves thedoor open for a nuclear role in the energy mix. ESKOM has plans for building a PBMR demonstration plant and envisages that it may get 4% of the world future generating capacity through the PBMR project.
