Near Surface Waste Disposal

Development and management of radioactive waste disposal facilities: About 50 Member States have announced plans for developing disposal facility for low and intermediate level waste. They need to be provided with appropriate information on how to plan and implement repository development projects and how to operate completed facilities. These aspects will be topics of a set of planned NES reports to be prepared in the forthcoming years, including such issues like planning and implementing LILW repository, application of geologic and geographic information system, design options for near surface disposal facilities, operation of disposal facilities.
