Geological Waste Disposal
Completed Activities in Geological Disposal
- Disposal of long lived waste: Disposal of non-heat producing long lived waste is becoming a topical issue as both during operation and decommissioning of nuclear facilities such waste streams appear. The document provides an overview of relevant waste categories and the facilities which may be considered for their disposal, as well as selection factors and procedures to be considered when looking for the most appropriate approach.
- Technological Implications of International Safeguards for Disposal of Spent Nuclear Fuel & Radioactive Waste: These implications refer to the various phases of the life cycle of a geological repository containing spent nuclear fuel and nuclear material waste subject to IAEA safeguards. To ensure the absence of any safeguard-relevant undeclared activities and not compromise operation and safety, Design Information needs to be verified during construction progress and likely joint operation development.
