Chemistry Unit
Major, trace and ultratrace element analysis in environmental samples using either ICP-OES, AAS or ICP-MS
Type of training:
- Group training:
Maximum 3 trainees per technique for 2 months - Individual fellowships:
4 person months per technique per year
Topics included in the training programme:
- Introduction to laboratory safety (obligatory)
- Introduction to the relevant analytical technique
- Sample collection and preparation (if requested)
- Sample digestion
- Instrument optimisation
- Influence of matrix elements on the analysis
- Interference correction
- Calculation of results
QA/QC subjects included in the training:
- QA documentation related to the technique
- Determination of uncertainty components of the methods
- Routine QC measures
- Instrument performance checks
- Method validation
Target groups:
Analytical staff engaged in elemental analysis of environmental samples
Prerequisites:
University degree in chemistry or other relevant disciplines, equivalent degree from another recognised educational system or 3 years of practical experience with the technique.
Remarks:
In general, the training should be in line with ongoing IAEA projects related to the analytical technique.
