Inauguration of Gamma Camera Laboratory at Seibersdorf

On 17 May 2007 Mr. W. Burkart, DDG-NA and Ms. G. Voigt, DIR-NAAL inaugurated a new Gamma Camera Laboratory at Seibersdorf. The new facility was established by the Instrumentation Unit of the IAEA Laboratories at Seibersdorf (NAAL) in co-operation with the Division of Human Health (NAHU) and support of the Division of Physical and Chemical Sciences (NAPC) and TC Department.

The instruments (planar gamma camera and SPECT) for the Gamma Camera Laboratory were provided by MEDISO, Hungary. Gamma cameras are major instruments applied in nuclear medicine for diagnostic purposes. The images generated by gamma cameras show physiological function of the systems being investigated. The Gamma Camera Laboratory will be used for training in operation, calibration, quality control and quality assurance as well as preventive maintenance. New training programme will be developed by NAAL, NAHU and TC in cooperation with the supplier of gamma cameras.
