Tsetse flies
Services
Seven species of tsetse, one sub-species and one eye colour mutant are maintained, some in relatively large numbers. They are provided to Member States as required.This service is extremely valuable as there are now only a few laboratories maintaining tsetse.

We are collaborating with the Tsetse & Trypanosomiasis Research Institute, Tanga, United Republic of Tanzania and the Institute of Zoology, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava, Slovak Republic to develop them as additional centres for supplying tsetse. |
The Unit also coordinates the collection and distribution of genetic material from flies from different parts of Africa and provides DNA sequences for population genetic analysis. |
