23 participants from Argentina, Brazil and Mexico participated in the Workshop held in Belo Horizonte on 23-26 June 2009.
Experts presented their lectures on 1) integrity assessment of reactor pressure vessels (RPVs) and other safety relevant SSCs, 2) tools used in the assessment and the latest research (advanced fracture mechanics, leak-before-break concept, modelling of irradiation embrittlement on substructural level), 3) examples of life extension programme in Germany, Korea and the United States.
Workshop participants visited research laboratories of the host organizer, Center of Nuclear Technology Development (CDTN). They were shown methods on monitoring of material changes in operation using some mock-up samples fabricated with the original technology, procedures and material and other degradation related specimens as well as techniques used for corrosion monitoring in laboratory built for study of behaviour of stress-corrosion cracking mechanism.
