Technical Indices of Ageing Degradation Mechanisms (International Generic Ageing Lessons Learned (GALL) /Knowledge base)

Ageing Degradation Indices

The objective if this project is to use the US GALL (Generic Ageing Lessons Learned) report (NUREG-1801) together with international ageing experience, in order to produce an international equivalent to the GALL report which addresses WWERs, CANDUs, and Western BWRs/PWRs.

The objective mainly has the following two aspects:

  • Cover potential ageing degradation mechanisms for SSCs of LWRs and CANDUs major Member Sates are taking into account;
  • Cover good ageing management programmes major Member Sates are taking into account are implementing or planning for the above mentioned ageing degradation mechanisms.

Since this activity needs certain amount of work and continues at least two years, the meeting will be followed by two to three CS meetings and one technical meeting.

Provisional Plan of Meetings:
CS 1 May 2008 – Decide future approach using US GALL as a reference
                             - agreement on basic concept, scope and structure
                             - agreement on the approach to develop the database
                             - first trial inputs for a few typical components
CS 2 4Q08 - Further activities to develop International GALL database
                             - develop prototype (first phase) database for major
                                SCs
TM 1 2009 - Member State support for International GALL activities
                             - ask Member States to review and provide comments
                               on the first phase database
CS 3 2009 - Complete the first phase International GALL database
