2013-01-25 | Within the framework of IAEA support to nuclear power introduction in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a coordination meeting was held at Vienna, Austria from 15 to 16 January 2013 with the aim of finalizing the Integrated Work Plan (IWP) that streamlines IAEA support to the country’s nuclear power programme.

This consultation meeting gave the opportunity to finalize a five year IWP (2013-2017) that provides a framework for defining the assistance to the national nuclear power activities using all IAEA mechanisms including Technical Cooperation (TC), Regulatory Budget (RB) and Extra-Budgetary Programme (EBP).

During the two day meeting that consisted on technical discussion and review of activities, all the different areas for interest to the country were discussed in depth.

While the meeting was an excellent forum for highlighting the IAEA integrated approach to nuclear power introduction and team building among all programme stakeholders inside and outside the IAEA, the event achieved its expected outcome, providing an opportunity to review the status and prospects of nuclear power in UAE. It also provided opportunity to discuss the necessary actions and activities needed to carry forward the UAE's national nuclear power programme.
