Side Event on Integrated Approaches in Nuclear Work Force Development, IAEA, 19 September 2012

20 September 2012 - During the 56th IAEA General Conference, the Department of Nuclear Energy organised a Side Event on Integrated Approaches in Nuclear Work Force Development on 19 September 2012.

Representatives from the International Institue of Nuclear Energy (I2EN), France, the KEPCO International Nuclear Graduate School (KINGS) in the Republic of Korea, the Central Institute for Continuing Education and Training (CICET) in the Russian Federation and the Nuclear Power Institute (NPI), USA, presented their respective successful models of integration as experienced supplier countries. The United Arab Emirates, as an advanced newcomer country, presented their progress in this area, utilising such international experience.

All speakers highlighted the importance of focusing on establishing a highly competent workforce and the challenge of meeting human resource needs in a timely manner.

The event highlighted the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders involved in nuclear workforce development, both nationally and internationally. The event was well supported with around 100 Member States representatives and IAEA experts in attendance, and a plea was made to continue this theme at next year’s conference.
