Consultancy Meeting for the Collaborative Project on Review of Innovative Reactor Concepts for Prevention of Severe Accidents and Mitigation of their Consequences (RISC)

The Collaborative Project (CP) on Review of Innovative Reactor Concepts for Prevention of Severe Accidents and Mitigation of their Consequences (RISC) is being implemented as an activity 2.2 under Task 2 “Innovations” of the INPRO Action Plan 2014-2015.

This project aims to demonstrate that technical and institutional innovations related to advanced reactor designs that provide continued progress to ultimately meet a design requirement to avoid releases warranting relocation or evacuation outside NPP sites in case of a severe accident.

Major scope is as follows:

  • Review of advanced reactor concepts so as to measure the progress of design concepts that claim to satisfy the above safety design requirement.
  • Pilot exercise to assess these concepts in selected reactor designs using the INPRO Methodology (reactor safety area) and provide recommendations for further development of the Methodology.
  • Explore the role of multilateral cooperation in RD&D programs associated with enhancing the safety of the global Nuclear Energy System.
