Today, 17 September 2010, the IAEA Board of Governors concluded its September meeting. Before the Board commenced its deliberations on Monday, 13 September, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano delivered an address, providing an update on nuclear security, nuclear verification, and the on-going discussions regarding the refuelling of the Tehran Research Reactor.
During its September session, the Board considered programme performance, measures to strengthen international cooperation in nuclear, radiation, transport and waste safety, international cooperation in nuclear, radiation, transport and waste safety; nuclear security, including measures to protect against nuclear and radiological terrorism; strengthening the Agency´s activities related to nuclear science, technology and applications; the application of IAEA safeguards in the Middle East; the Israeli nuclear capabilities; among other issues.
The Board of Governors will next meet on 27 September 2010, following the week-long General Conference that convenes from 20 through 24 September 2010.
