Today, the IAEA is hosting a meeting of representatives from France, Iran, Russia and the United States at the Agency´s Headquarters in Vienna.

Discussions are expected to focus on the provision of nuclear fuel needed for the sustained operation of the Tehran Research Reactor. The reactor produces medical radioisotopes for therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

The participants chose the IAEA as the venue of their talks since the Agency has been requested by Iran to facilitate talks with possible suppliers of nuclear fuel for the reactor as part of the Agency´s statutory functions.

Iran´s request regarding the supply of nuclear fuel for the Tehran Research Reactor was also discussed during talks held in Geneva between high-level officials of the Governments of China, France, Germany, Iran, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States on 1 October 2009.
