26, Monday: IAEA General Conference Opens in Vienna. The 49th Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference opens today at the Austria Centre in Vienna, Austria. In his statement to the attending, high-level delegations, Director General Mohamed ElBaradei reviewed a range of nuclear challenges and opportunities facing the Agency and its Member States. 24, Saturday: IAEA Board Adopts Resolution on Iran. At the end of week-long meetings beginning 19 September, the IAEA Board of Governors adopted a resolution on the implementation of safeguards in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The resolution finds that Iran´s failures and breaches constitute non-compliance and calls on Iran to return to the negotiating process. It was adopted by a vote of 22 in favour, 1 against and 12 abstentions. 23, Friday: IAEA Board Meetings Continue in Vienna. The 35-member IAEA Board of Governors convened at 17:00 hours Vienna time to continue its consideration of the implementation of nuclear safeguards in Iran and other remaining items. The Board has been meeting on a range of issues this week related to nuclear safeguards, safety, security, and technology. 19, Monday: Dr. ElBaradei Addresses Board on North Korea, Iran, Other Issues. IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei addressed the Agency´s 35-member Board of Governors on a range of topics, including developments related to nuclear safeguards, safety, and technology. 11, Thursday: IAEA Board Urges Iran: Suspend Uranium Conversion, Re-Instate Seals. The IAEA Board of Governors has urged Iran to re-establish full suspension of all enrichment related activities and to re-instate the IAEA seals that were removed at its Uranium Conversion Facility in Isfahan yesterday, as part of a new resolution it adopted in Vienna this afternoon. 10, Wednesday: IAEA Confirms Iran Lifted Seals at Uranium Conversion Facility. IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei has informed Members of the IAEA Board of Governors that Iran has today removed the seals on the process lines and the UF4at the Uranium Conversion Facility in Isfahan. Also, in a briefing to members of international press yesterday, Dr. ElBaradei said he has called for maximum restraint, no unilateral actions, and continued negotiations by all parties. 8, Monday: IAEA Chief Updates Board on Safeguards Developments in Iran. IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei has informed members of the Board of Governors that Iran today started to feed uranium ore concentrate into the first part of the process line at its Uranium Conversion Facility. The Board meets tomorrow in a special session to discuss the implementation of safeguards in Iran and related Board resolutions. 13, Monday: Director General ElBaradei Reappointed, Cites Iran Verification Among Key Challenges. At June meetings, IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei was reappointed as Director General by the Agency´s Board of Governors. 17, Thursday: Director General ElBaradei Assesses Nuclear Proliferation Threats. In an interview with CNN, IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei assessed the threats of nuclear proliferation facing the IAEA and international community. He called for a reevaluation and reinforcement of the world´s Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which States are reviewing in May 2005. 8, Tuesday: IAEA Board of Governors Concludes March Session. The IAEA Board has concluded its meetings in Vienna on nuclear safeguards, safety, and technology issues. In briefings to the Board and the press, IAEA Director General Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei emphasized that IAEA inspectors are making "good progress" in verifying Iran's nuclear programme while underlining the need for Iran to be "more transparent". 1, Tuesday: IAEA Board Briefed on IAEA Safeguards in Iran. The IAEA Board was briefed further today on Agency verification activities in Iran. Mr. Pierre Goldschmidt, head of IAEA Safeguards, updated the Board on work conducted since November 2004. 31, Monday: IAEA Chief Briefs Press on Nuclear Verification, Security Issues. In recent media interviews, IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei underlined the urgency of stepping up efforts against nuclear proliferation and potential acts of terrorism. Speaking to reporters at the World Economic Forum (WEF), Dr. ElBaradei also addressed questions on the major issues before the IAEA, including nuclear verification in Iran and North Korea.
