Jobs at Hand
While cracking cattle export markets in Europe is still a long way off, healthy livestock remain economic engines at home for Africa’s small farming communities. Look at the milk sold at Dakar’s street stalls, creating employment opportunities for women. Sales of extra milk help them provide for their families. The FAO estimates that for every 100 litres of milk produced locally, up to five jobs are created in related industries like processing and transport.
