Announcing the 7th INPRO Dialogue Forum on Sustainability of Nuclear Energy Systems Based on Evolutionary Reactors
Preparatory Meeting with Vendors, Vienna, 19-21 Aug 2013

The INPRO Group is hosting the 7th Dialogue Forum in Vienna from 19-22 November 2013. This Forum will focus on application of the INPRO Methodology to assess the sustainability of Member States’ planned and existing nuclear energy systems. Sustainability assessment is part of a portfolio of INPRO services provided to Member States in support of long-range planning of national nuclear energy programmes. The 7th INPRO Dialogue Forum presents a unique opportunity for Member States that are currently receiving or interested in INPRO services and sustainability assessment of evolutionary reactor designs. Vendors of evolutionary nuclear reactor technology will participate in the Forum to demonstrate the assessment methodology.

Seven prominent reactor vendors, including AREVA, Candu Energy, GE-Hitachi, Hitachi-GE, KEPCO, Mitsubishi and ROSATOM have volunteered to present exemplary INPRO Methodology assessments of their evolutionary reactor designs in the area of safety of reactors. The assessed reactor designs are mature – either currently under construction or in various stages of certification and licensing. Member States’ representatives can witness how the INPRO assessments are performed by design authorities at a technical criteria level. Vendors can play a key role in providing necessary design information in a successful nuclear energy system assessment (NESA).

The purpose of the assessments is not to compare different technologies directly, but rather, to consider how each technology meets acceptance limits that define sustainability within the INPRO Methodology. There will be opportunities for participants to ask questions following vendor presentations.

The Dialogue Forum is open to all Member States and should be of particular interest to national nuclear energy authorities, technology developers, utilities, and technical support organizations (TSOs).
