Oct 8, 2012
The 56th IAEA General Conference, in passing a resolution on “Strengthening the Agency’s activities related to nuclear science, technology and applications”, noted INPRO’s growing membership, the strengthening of INPRO’s management structure and INPRO’s various activities, and commended the Director General and the Secretariat for their work in response to earlier GC resolutions, in particular the results achieved to date within INPRO.
The resolution also emphasized “the important role that the Agency can play in assisting interested Member States in building national long term nuclear energy strategies and in long term sustainable nuclear energy deployment decision making through NESAs based on the INPRO methodology and nuclear energy development modelling.”
The GC also encouraged interested Member States, the IAEA, and in particular INPRO, to develop nuclear energy scenarios and roadmaps for a transition to sustainable nuclear energy systems based on collaboration among countries and highlighted the role of international cooperation in such development.
